This Year's Theme

The main objective of Addis International Film Festival (AIFF) is to promote films that bring awareness to major local and global issues in Addis Ababa and other major cities of Ethiopia. The theme of 12th Edition of AIFF is ‘’It’s Not Easy To Start Over In A New Place’ to put the spotlight on the current global issue of ‘displacement’ from all four corners of the world due to war, genocide, ethnic cleansing, natural disasters, environmental changes, famine, political conflicts, economic reasons, etc.

Who We Are

The Addis International Film Festival (AIFF) is a non-profit organization based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia comprised of enthusiastic volunteers with a common interest in supporting filmmakers from around the world. Every year AIFF showcases films made by a diverse group of both seasoned and emerging filmmakers who have documented information essential for analyzing issues that affect society. Our mission is to honor, promote and nurture Documentary cinema from local and international artists, while fostering cross-cultural communication.

What We Do

AIFF has completed 10 successive annual events from 2007- 2016. Participation in the organization of the film festival has grown from a modest 2 volunteers in 2007, to 30+ in 2015.  AIFF supports local filmmakers by promoting and celebrating their unique voices while advocating Ethiopian culture within the general global population. Promotion of a general underutilized standard of practice of documentary film making, production and post production and advertising of local businesses that have sponsored the film festival.
