The 17th Addis International Film Festival (AIFF)

As Ethiopia's established social activist, Initiative Africa will be hosting the 16th edition Addis International Film Festival, staring May 10th to May 14th, 2023, bringing more than 40 local and international documentaries, under the theme of Human Rights and The Global Crisis in their different forms taking place at the Alliance Ethio-Française, Hager Fiker Theater, and Italian Cultural institute in Addis Ababa. The documentaries aim to contribute to current global issues and their impact on various forms of Human Rights.

Through the screening of relevant documentaries and by convening discussions among experts and practitioners, AIFF is focusing on addressing the key drivers of change to engage in exchange of challenges and dilemmas related to the issue of human rights. The 2023 AIFF program will represent a few of the essential issues that have always, and still do, concern us all. 

Another essential component of the festival are discussions and live Q&A by Anike Tourse - Director of AMERICA'S FAMILY from United States of America, Ian Volpi - Director of Cine Hidalgo from United States of America.

Opening: May 10th - Italian Cultural Institute

Screening days: May 11th - 13th Alliance Ethio-Française, Hager Fiker Theater, Goethe Institut and Italian Cultural institute

Closing: May 14th Italian Cultural Institute

Round table discussion among film makers, human right advocators and Ethiopian Human

Right NGOs representatives on how to use documentaries as a tool to promote human rights and to create an insight to current Human Rights issue in the world and in Ethiopia

Providing a session of what making a film entails, giving young film makers a chance to

experience scriptwriting, producing and creating a story line.
